When it comes to remodeling, there’s no shortage of home design trends to choose from. Those trends are constantly evolving, but knowing what’s popular can help you develop your own design style and preferences. With that in mind, we thought it would be fun to share five design trends our team loved in 2021. Read more.

4. A Great Remodel is About the Details

When you think about remodeling, it’s easy to get caught up in the big picture. However, it takes a lot of little choices to get there! Even the smallest of finishes impact the overall design. Hidden details like pull-out cabinet drawers or a built-in spice rack also contribute to the final design, helping to create a more functional space. See some of our favorites from past projects!

5. Stunning Mound Kitchen Remodel

Unlike many modern home remodels, this kitchen (and living room fireplace) was fully updated without moving a single wall. This project goes to show how much a space can be reimagined without altering the original footprint! Explore more photos on our blog.

6. Sophisticated Main Level Renovation

Isn’t this main-level renovation sophisticated? We love the playful use of color and pattern paired with more classic design elements. P.S. Isn’t our furry photo model adorable? Explore more photos.

A Great Remodel is All About the Details

Have you ever heard the phrase, “the devil is in the details”? While that phrase definitely applies to many situations, it couldn’t be more true for home remodeling projects!

When you think about remodeling, it’s easy to get caught up in the big picture — aka what your newly remodeled home will look like when completed. The end goal is to create a gorgeous space; however, it takes a lot of little choices to get there. Achieving that objective means paying attention to design details, no matter how insignificant they may seem.

Even the smallest of finishes, such as your cabinet hardware, impact the overall design. We’re not just talking about the design elements you can see, though! Hidden details like pull-out cabinet drawers or a built-in spice rack also contribute to the final design, helping to create a more functional space.

Now that you know why the details matter, scroll below to see some of our favorite design details from past projects! When you’re ready to get the ball rolling on your own remodeling project, get in touch with our award-winning team. We can’t wait to help you bring your vision to life!

Plan Ahead: Remodeling Advice for a Busy Market

Are you hoping to update your home this year? It’s pretty common knowledge that remodeling is more popular than ever right now. In the wake of the pandemic, homeowners are ready to update their spaces and make them work for them like never before.

If you’re in the beginning stages of planning a remodel and feeling overwhelmed, we would love to offer some expert advice. The wild current building and remodeling markets aren’t for the faint of heart, but they’re not impossible to navigate!

Plan Ahead
Our greatest piece of advice for anyone considering a remodel in the coming year is to plan ahead. All good things take time. Quality, professional, experienced companies are worth the investment, which may result in a slightly longer wait.

Good Design Takes Time
Any major remodel or addition requires careful planning, and a reputable designer or contractor isn’t going to rush the process. From drawing up designs to making selections, creating something beautiful takes time – that will always be true, pandemic or not.

Set Yourself Up for Success
The impact of COVID-19 has increased lead times for some materials, and suppliers are doing their best to catch up. Rest assured, everyone else embarking on a remodel in the coming year will be facing the same challenges!

However, you can set yourself up for success by doing your research, making plans as soon as possible, setting realistic expectations, and working with a trustworthy company that will be upfront with you about the process.

5 Home Design Trends We’re Loving in 2021

When it comes to remodeling, there’s no shortage of home design trends to choose from. Those trends are constantly evolving, but knowing what’s popular can help you develop your own design style and preferences. With that in mind, we thought it would be fun to share 5 design trends our team is loving in 2021. Check them out below!

Global Influence

Travel may be on hold for the foreseeable future, but that hasn’t stopped many of us from dreaming of faraway places. Luckily, the internet makes it possible to explore new and interesting locations all over the world. With easy access to diverse cultures and international styles, it’s no surprise homeowners are embracing global influences in their own homes. From the vibrant and rich colors of the Mediterranean to the soft textures and natural wood finishes of Italy and everything in between.

Multi-Functional Spaces

If there’s anything the last year has taught us, it’s that rooms with only one function are incredibly impractical. The solution? Dual-purpose rooms! From home offices that double as guest rooms to indoor-outdoor living areas, multi-functional spaces add value to your home and life.

Woven Accents

Woven accents are gaining traction in interior design, and it’s easy to see why! Rattan and wicker pieces like light fixtures and furniture are a great way to bring texture to your home.  Best of all, this home design trend can be used both indoors and out for a cohesive design.

Dark Countertops

Light and bright countertops are a timeless option for any kitchen. That said, dark counterparts offer a bold alternative. Dark, glossy options and deep-toned wood counters are the perfect contrast to light-stained, painted, or white cabinets.

Clean-Lined Cabinetry

Minimalism has been a popular home design trend for a while now. These days, it’s expanding beyond living spaces and into the kitchen with clean-lined cabinets. Minimalist kitchen cabinets feature a nearly seamless design and touch-release doors and drawers for a hardware-free finish.

Looking to incorporate your favorite home design trends into your home? We’d love to help! Get in touch with our award-winning team to get the ball rolling on your next home remodel.

Featured Project: Award-Winning Pergola

We recently shared some great news; Knight Construction Design, Inc. won a Roma Award and three CotY awards in 2020! Now that the big news is out, we wanted to share a closer look at the project that won a CotY award in the Residential Detached Structure category. Let’s dive in!

When the homeowner approached our team, their exterior lacked curb appeal. The home’s front originally featured an entry structure composed of bulky stucco columns topped with painted wood beams. Because the structure matched the home’s exterior, there was no visual appeal to draw the eye. The oversized columns also blocked natural light, which made the walkway feel dark and boxed in.

Determined to give the home’s exterior new life, our team got to work designing a brand-new structure. We created a natural timber pergola and paired it with a lighter brushed concrete walk. The Douglas Fir structure contrasts beautifully with the exterior of the home to create a welcoming focal point. Slender columns allow plenty of natural light to warm up the front entry. An architectural detail inside the home inspired the custom hand-crafted banding and bolts around the posts. This fun detail gives guests a peek of what’s to come while creating a cohesive design inside and out.

Project Feature: Modern Main Level Transformation

Today, we’re excited to give you a peek inside this sophisticated and modern main level transformation! These homeowners decided their dated kitchen was due for an update, and they reached out to our team to make it happen. While much of the kitchen’s layout didn’t change, the reimagined space is far more functional, open, and accessible.

Working together, we helped the homeowners create a gorgeous kitchen featuring new paint, dark gray cabinetry, Cambria Quartz countertops, eye-catching floating shelves, and elongated matte white subway tile to create a lean modern look. Every inch of the cabinetry interior (pictured below) was considered and designed to maximize this busy family’s storage space. New windows allow more natural light to flow throughout the kitchen, giving it a much-needed “light and bright” feel. Brand-new appliances, including a new range hood, complete the look of this newly remodeled kitchen.

We also updated the living room to create a more cohesive design throughout the main floor. In addition to painting the existing brick fireplace white, we added built-in cabinets and floating wall shelves, which help bring the living room and kitchen together and make the two spaces feel more like one. Our team loved collaborating with these homeowners and helping breathe new life into their space. Scroll below to get a look at the details of this amazing transformation!
